The latest installation at Halls features 11 local artists whose works appear in pop-up displays throughout the store.
The artists include:
Max Adrian, creative writing and fiber – Max is a former resident of the New York Studio Residency Program in Brooklyn and will graduate from KCAI in May 2015 with a degree in creative writing and fiber. His diverse studio practice involves sculpture, installation, photography and costuming.
Brockstar, visual and performance artist – Brock is a KCAI-educated artist, dabbling in costume, fashion, painting, sculpture and performance art.
Karyn Brooke, floral designer and owner of Sidelines Custom Floral Designs, Inc. – Karyn started her floral design business in Kansas City in 1984, and creates designs for individual clients, weddings and corporate events. In 1992, she was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers, an organization devoted to advancing the art of professional floral design.
Shenequa A. Brooks, fiber artist – Shenequa received her BFA from KCAI and is currently part of the Charlotte Street Studio Residency Program. She utilitzes synthetic and human hair in braiding and weaving headdresses, wall pieces and garments.
Nicholas K Clark, painter – Nicholas incorporates acrylics, oils and watercolor into work ranging from contemporary figure studies to expressionistic color studies to pop art. He is a Missouri native who followed his passion from here to Los Angeles to Denver to Dallas to Oklahoma City to the Hyde Park neighborhood he now calls home.
Rachelle Gardner, mixed media artist – Rachelle has her undergraduate degree in interior architecture from Kansas State and works in drawing, ceramics, wood, and resin with an emphasis on textiles.
Cole Robert Higginbotham, painter – Cole is a contemporary oil painter, inspired by the perceived connection between life and nature and the continual change of the environment through motion. He received his BFA in studio painting from Northwest Missouri State University.
Whitney Manney, fashion designer – Whitney graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) in 2012 with a BFA in Fibers. She creates garments and textile designs. Her fashion has been featured extensively in local media as well as at the UMKC Gallery of Art, Kansas City Fashion Week, St. Louis Fashion Week and the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University. Zulian Martinez, fiber artist and painter – Zulian is a graduate of the fibers department at KCAI and also studied painting at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. She has show extensively in Chicago as well as in Connecticut and Kansas City.
Carie Musick, interdisciplinary artist – Carie revives the traditional domestic arts of needlepoint, weaving and crochet to explore contemporary sexuality, relationships and religion. She received her BFA in Fibers from KCAI in 2013 and is currently an artist-in-residence at the Charlotte Street Foundation.
Lauren Sobchak, interdisciplinary artist – Lauren focuses on functional and non-functional handwoven structures, fabricated metal sculptures and pieced artworks. She has exhibited her work in such spaces as City Ice Arts, Vulpes Bastille, Hearth at Farm to Market and the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute.
